Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Very slight RNG on second enemy pet. But this strat should work flawlessy 9 times out of 10.

Enjoy

Edit 20/02/21: it seems 50% of people make it work 1st or 2nd time, 50% keep failing. I have tried this multiple times before posting. I guess it just involved more RNG than thought. Yet, I still think it's viable and easy strat with pets easy to find.

Edit: 05/04/21 : fox breed adapted to PB thx to Darkrav83's comment

Low XP
Breed
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
RNG
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

I ran into issues with Runehoof surviving with Xu-Fu's attack with very low HP. One workaround is to have Xu-Fu use Spirit Claws for his first skill instead of Bite. It has a chance to miss, which means you'll fail the fight, but it's probably still a more consistent strategy overall.

Sorry but I honestly don't see how anyone has gotten this to work. Should be marked RNG and some kind of higher-health breed requirement on the fox, at best according to the comments. But unless you have an incredibly lucky string of enemy misses, non-crits, and no stun, etc. I still don't see how it could work. Same issues as other commenters in terms of the familiar losing terribly.

Lumimyrsky87

wrote on 2022-10-06 15:29:10

My first attempt went horribly wrong, but I somehow managed on the 2'nd one. I'm pretty sure I only managed because the enemy team had no crits at all :))

Crucco#2928

wrote on 2022-02-09 21:47:37

I finally made it after spending an hour or so. The only way this can possibly work is if the second enemy pet, Runehoof, misses at least two times due to the darkness weather. So yeah please put an RNG flag so people will know there is time to spend with this, and bandages to bring.

Crucco#2928

wrote on 2022-02-09 21:41:12

Currently at my 10th failed attempt. Horrible strategy. It's RNG in the sense that maybe with only crits on your side there is a chance to make it.

Crucco#2928

wrote on 2022-02-09 21:39:08

This needs an RNG mark. I am currently at the 5th unsuccessful attempt. Feline familiar can be stunned. Any crit from their side will make your pets die. Also, Xu-Fu needs bite, so his abilities need to be corrected to 2-2-2

Crucco#2928

wrote on 2022-02-09 21:35:57

Xu-Fu abilities must be 2-2-2, not 1-2-2 as indicated. It needs bite

Gráinne

wrote on 2022-01-12 05:46:14

There are several people who investigate reports of problems with strategies on Xu-Fu's. There are designated Strategy Curators, and other regulars who read comments and are interested in the latest.

In my experience, when people leave a short "It didn't work" note, they usually made a mistake. Maybe they used a pet with the wrong Speed, maybe they didn't do a Pass where it was indicated, sometimes they were even using the team and strat from a completely different battle. :)

Sometimes there genuinely is a problem with the strat. This is where the Curators and others come in, checking the strat for weaknesses, and fixing it or removing it if it can't be fixed.

Since most failure reports with no details are wrong, it's not good to waste people's time investigating them. Instead, help them by providing the information they need.

If the strat failed for you, and you want your comment to be taken seriously:

1. Specify EXACTLY which species and breeds you used. In this case, my first suspicion is that your Fox was the wrong breed. I could be wrong about that, ofc, but I don't have any information to go on, because you provided none.

2. Specify whether you read the strategy from the site and executed it manually, or downloaded and used the tdScript.

3. Specify EXACTLY where the first unexpected thing happened, the first thing that deviated from what the strat predicts. What died too early? What didn't die when it was supposed to? What attack missed?

4. If possible, provide a log. You can see your log in the Pet Battle tab of your chat box. You can pull that out, make it bigger, screenshot it. Better still, you can use the addon Battle Pet Log Keeper from Curseforge, and do /pblk and Save Battle when the battle you want to log is complete.

Almost any strat can fail to a really unlucky string of crits, and some difficult challenge strats like the Family ones may fail more than anyone likes, but the people behind this site do their best to promote well-working strats. Do your part. Provide useful information.

I finally won after making the following changes: Bite on the Fox's first attack, since the speed buff wasn't going to help with Slugger anyway. Fox survives that fight with enough health to take a hit from RH, so DD on first attack against Runehoof and then another Bite before dying. This ate one of the large-hit attacks from Runehoof. Switched to Pounce for Feline Familiar's secondary attack (speed buff gave it an extra attack), easily killed Runehoof and even got a hit in on Duster. Rest of fight as described.

kess wrote on 2021-05-04 16:17:25

not your fault the import string says 122 should be 222

Darkrav83 wrote on 2021-03-14 10:58:27

This stat has been terrible for me - it does not work at all. Fox has never survived to take a hit from Runehoof. Feline Familiar has never managed to kill Runehoof. Hugely RNG.

Darkrav83 wrote on 2021-03-14 11:05:54

I discovered the issue - your fox pet needs to be a higher health version. This is absolutely a breed dependent fight. I used my H/S Fox Kit and won the first try, even despite a huge crit from the moth pet. I did slightly vary my fox's attack order as well - Bite, Crouch, DD, Bite until enemy was dead.

Morgiana#1744

wrote on 2021-03-14 20:55:12

Thank you for this comment! I had the same problem with the fox dying early and swapping to my higher health Alpine Foxling Kit (as well as using your ability order) completely fixed the problem. Won first try I changed to that. ^_^

Easty to miss it, turn 7 is both bring in a new pet, and Prowl. People may be missing that. I'd put prowl on its own line personally. It felt bad and RNGy until I realized what I was doing wrong. Once I prowled before Call Darkness, it was one-shot. (edited)

This needs an RNG mark: Between the misses, potential stun, and crits, this is incredibly RNG dependent. It took me 4 tries to even make it to the third pet alive. Currently giving up after 18 attempts.

Toto wrote on 2021-02-18 11:37:20

Darqgenocyde wrote on 2021-02-16 22:10:54

RNG is more than just slightly a factor. my Feline Familiar NEVER gets the Call Darkness off because Runehoof first stuns it, then interrupts and kills it. So the prowl is all that gets off. So there's got be a breed factor missing somewhere along with the RNG

Yea there's something hidden at play here either breed or just severe RNG on this fight. But I've tried this 7 times with not even CLOSE to being able to kill the 3rd pet. Feline Familiar gets absolutely demolished by the 2nd pet and if you get stunned it's guaranteed a fail.

It worked for me but I had a big crit on Call Darkness that made the second pet a non-issue .Definitely needs RNG mark due to missing with call darkness or crits.

I'm thinking breeds might matter because this failed A LOT for me before I finally got a win with 88hp left on Xu-Fu. I'm lucky if pet 1 kills off enemy 1 (had to play around with the choices, ended up using Mist Fox Kit as my others failed miserably) but then Feline Familiar is dead before Runehoof is dead, mine never killed Runehoof. Xu-Fu gets mostly destroyed by Runehoof with the stuns, unless you get lucky. Took me 8 tries and I'm glad I don't need to do that again, lol. Thanks for the strat though because this was the only one I could tweak and get to work for me.
