Tried this strategy in 9.0.2, changing out Summit Kid for a tough beast with Blackclaw and a hard hit (I used PS Zandalari Kneebiter *22). Tried three times and won every time even with the RNG.

Still works in 9.1.5, also with Zandalari Shinchomper, first I used Aura of Gonk an then Hunting Party :3

Does not seem to work in 9.0.1 prepatch, Summit Kit does not do enough damage due to stampede nerf, and gets killed by Marshmallow. Also, Rocket's abilities may deal a lot of damage to your pets due to bad RNG.

Survived with 7 HP. If it works, it works. The only HP that matters is the last one!

AM wrote on 2020-05-27 14:39:29

Did not have *the mentioned pets.
Did it with Vicious Broodling 2 1 *, Zandalari kneebiter 2 2 *

Niente wrote on 2020-01-23 21:45:15

Didn't have any of the pets listed leveled so I used a combo of what others listed.

Alpine Foxling 1,1,1
Moon Moon 1,1,1
Ash Spiderling 2,2,2

Crouch, Leap, Bite x3 Jinx dies.
Switch to Moon Moon.
Moon tears, Howl, Moon fang x2, Rocket dies.
Moon fang, Howl, Moon Moon dies.
Ash spiderling
Brittle webbing, Spiderling Swarm, Marshmallow dies.

I did it quick and it could be refined but there was room for rng and mistakes. (edited)

RabidPenguin wrote on 2016-12-23 12:29:01

3 out of 3 attempts so far and Feline dies on Rocket long before I am able to kill him.

-- edit: add a stoneskin after the first Onyx bite so you benefit from howl and you can survive the Rocket fight easily. got it on 4th attempt with plenty of health leftover to get a prowl bite on Marshmallow.

fully agree, this strategy is a trash, there would have to be a way to up/down votes strategies to try to avoid to fill the website with trashes like this one :S:S
sorry, ur job is great but its so sad when u see 1st alternative, not even marked 'attention', that really dont have a chance to work :S:S
my 2 cents, sorry me again, and ty anyway for ur hard job :)
edit: to make u to get: it have fully failed even when i have got a lucky crit stike that 1shotted rocket, the only way this trash strat could works is if u get crit strike at every ur shot :S:S
sorry again, and have a great Christmas :)

Vosk wrote on 2017-02-16 09:00:41

Sorry, try to be helpful, but this strat isn't very good. Pup dies on back row, Feline never gets past howl and Stampede not enough to take down cat.

Aerna-Eonar wrote on 2017-05-24 22:52:19

This is accurate. Strat is vague and unreliable.

Camlas

wrote on 2018-07-22 15:28:22

It's all RNG, due to Onyx Bite's wide damage range. I was lucky to have it crit on the higher end on my second try and Feline Familiar ended up taking ~80% of Rocket's hp in one hit. On my first try it barely scratched Rocket and I lost due to that. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Narothen wrote on 2018-04-09 09:35:20

Crystalline Broodling (1,1,1), Xu-Fu (1,2,2) and Summit Kid (2,1,2) :)

Ariellè wrote on 2017-11-25 08:14:18

Hey, I used Black footed Fox Kit 1.1.1, Summit Kid 2.1.2 and Adder 2.1.1.

daedelusikarius wrote on 2017-04-09 03:10:02

I used Fel PuP 1/1/1 Terror Larva 1/1/1 and Crystalline Broodling 1/1/1 all with the Heart breed whatever that is called. Use Fel Pup as described then Terror Larva use Acidic Goo and then Worst Fear to knock off 2nd boss and finally Broodling use the burrow, then the heal, then the rend to finish off the final cat

Anonymous wrote on 2016-12-24 08:27:40

After twelve tries with this, here's what apparently has to happen for it to work:

Your Feline Familiar has to be brought below 50% before the first (Howl-boosted) Onyx Bite on Rocket. With the Beast passive, this will put Rocket at about 5% health left and you can finish him off the next turn while he wastes his turn on Nature's Ward.

Then, instead of wasting Prowl on Marshmallow (as if your Familiar's going to live next turn - it basically never does) simply Onyx Bite it once. You can get an Onyx Bite next turn as Marshmallow's speed will be reduced by his own Prowl, but don't, as this will usually put Marshmallow below 50%, activating his Beast passive and then destroying your Summit Kid afterwards.

Aside from that, there's a lot of RNG involved because of Cyclone's low hit chance, but there's not much that can be done about that. Regardless, it felt like a very unreliable strat.

Cogar wrote on 2016-12-25 14:26:44

First try with this setup didn't work. I used the suggestion to omit the Prowl on Marshmallow on first round and the setup worked perfectly.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-03-27 12:46:50

agreed. omit the prowl and setup works.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-03-28 00:07:33

Omit Prowl. Worked like a charm!

Aranesh

Changed the strat, thank you very much!

Jugajuice wrote on 2016-12-25 20:47:58

If you have Moon Moon raised up, he works wonders as well. Did Fel Pup (1,1,1), Moon Moon (1,1,1), and Ash Spiderling (2,2,2) and one shot it no problems. Follow the Fel Pup instructions then swap to moon moon, use moon bite to pretty mucho OKO Rocket, then howl before he dies on Marshmallow, swap to Ash Spiderling, Brittle Webbing, Spiderling Swarm, and Poison spit if needed.

Thezedword wrote on 2017-03-28 01:00:15

Worked perfectly! Thank you for suggestion. :)

Tyrsa wrote on 2017-02-11 14:41:01

Bloodgazer Hatchling (2,1,1) with Savage Talon in the last slot instead of the Summit Kid works also. Handy for the falcosaur quests. My Feline didn't finish Rocket, so Predatory Strike did, then after Marshmallow came in Swarm - Savage x2 and he was dead.

Muqaddisa wrote on 2017-02-17 05:58:41

This would not work towards the Family Familiar achievement since Hatchling is a flying pet.

Kylana wrote on 2016-11-27 01:54:12

I didn't have my Fel Pup raised up yet, so I just used an Alpine Foxling. It worked great! Thanks.

gerana wrote on 2016-11-21 22:08:47

jungle grub (222), crystalline broodling (211), and alpine foxling (112).

Ssparkles wrote on 2016-09-28 04:29:42

Maggot (2,1,2) in the first slot was super effective. Burrow when ever you can and then alternate between Acid Goo and Consume. Maggot powered through Jinx and got Rocket down to 200HP.
When Maggot died I swapped in Xu-Fu for Moonfire. Used Spirit Claws till Xu-Fu died and then brought in Summit Kid and followed the strat listed above- Chew and Stampede.
With RNG Maggot doesn't always get Rocket so low.

Lockturnal wrote on 2016-09-28 22:37:04

Wow this was brilliant! I didn't even need to use the Summit Kid as they were all dead with just first 2 pets! Thank you for this alternative strat that worked awesome!

Mungabella wrote on 2016-10-09 00:39:10

This worked perfectly! I used festering maggot, (H/H) and it killed almost all 3. Finished up with one moonfire.

Yav wrote on 2016-10-09 01:00:41

Maggot was great for this! Managed to kill the two first pets alone and also took down some of Marshmallows health. :)

Szuzsika wrote on 2016-10-09 03:13:08

I tried the original strat for like 3 times, my summit kid always died when Marsmallow had like 100 hp, but with this I killed them all, thanks a lot!

Lamplighter wrote on 2016-10-09 03:47:36

my feline familiar from the original strat would never survive. This one (maggot, xufu, summit)
worked much better for me

This is fantastic! Maggot owns face in this battle - he killed the first two and got Marshmallow down to 400 hp. Brought in Xu-Fu with Moonfire, and one round of Spirit Claws for the win! Good thinking, Ssparkles!

Very nice one, thank you for suggesting it!

Worked better than the Fel Pup / Feline Familiar, for which I has maybe bad RNG and which was mass failing for me :/

LOL I am not even sure how it happened but my Maggot crit and killed Rocket, got one acid on Marshmallow which somehow caused Moonfire to just about one shot Marshmallow.. I mean I got lucky but holy cow! great strat!

I don't have a Xu'Fu, so I used Moon-Moon (with the Maggot in the first slot). My Summit Kid finished them off with about 600 health left

It is possible to defeat this encounter with common beasts. My line up consisted of:

Alpine Foxling Kit (or any fox) --> 1-1-2
Fox Kit (or any fox) --> 2-1-1
Summit Kid --> 1-1-1

Start with your first fox and Dazzling Dance, Crouch, and Chomp until first enemy pet is dead. I was lucky enough to get off another Dazzing Dance before my first fox died but it didn't matter because Rocket is going to be faster no matter what. After my first fox died I brought out my second fox and just spammed Flurry until Rocket was dead (note that there may be some RNG here if your Flurry only hits once too many times). After that with Summit Kid I just Headbutted and Hoof-ed and that ended it. I will note that my Summit Kid was actually level 23 and he still survived with a sliver of health.

A little RNG on this fight I think. I replaced fel pup with xu fu and changed my feline familiar order to Stone skin>prowl>onyx bite. Onyx bite should land while Rocket is still beast and take 2/3 of his hp.

Without this sequence by feline familiar was dying before rocket did.

Xu-Fu worked as a good replacement to Feline Familiar for me
