Script thanks to Malhado

Medium XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

Gulp Frog:
Toxic Skin x1
Water Jet x1
Corpse Explosion x1 Switch to Spawn G.

Spawn of G'Nathus:

Dive x1
Swallow you Whole until dead

Gahz'rooki:

This strat worked perfect. Thanks!

Initiative wrote on 2018-06-29 13:46:17

Some benchmarks/stipulations that have to occur for this to work, even with the correct stats/types:

Your Leviathan Hatchling needs to die to a 2nd "Smelly Jar", so that it doesn't cast on your Strider- who will then be too slow to cast both Soothe & Cleansing Rain before it dies.

Steps 14-16 and 18-19: One of these pumps HAS to crit, or else Flummox's humanoid heal will defeat you with 60 health left.

nogulpfrog

wrote on 2018-06-30 08:47:12

only B/B H/B S/B slithershock elver is allowed in this strategy ,may be your slithershock elver is S/S

Jarlathe

wrote on 2018-07-02 08:04:08

Initiative, as Nogulp said, you must have the correct types for this to work. This was the hardest fight I had to do for this cheesement, and even with this strategy, it took me a few times.

Why does only Gulp's swarm ability work? I tried this with several other frogs with swarm and never got it to work.

Spiritwalker#1427

wrote on 2018-03-24 19:51:08

Gulp Froglet is the only one with the Swarm ability. Other frogs have Swarm of Flies, which is not the same ability.

Lilyoptra wrote on 2017-07-30 12:50:26

Was determined to defeat every familiary familiar encounter as my own personal goal and had every one but this guy. Tried repeatedly with Zinip's strat but RNG was never in my favor. Finally broke down and bought a Gulp Froglet and the difference was amazing. That Swarm ability made all the difference. With that finished I can now remove the addon, Family Familiar Helper - great addon for keeping track of progress on this achievement.

I do find it sad that this fight is a family familiar with only 1 hard-to-get pet as a truly viable option...

Fred wrote on 2018-03-24 13:32:48

I feel you. I used to feel the same. But fights like this made me realize that sometimes things are just bad, no other word for it. And it's just ok to let it go and move on.

I ran this 4 times in a row (total alts LOL), no failures. Flummox got a couple of crits, even.

Gulp Froglet: Water Jet, Toxic Skin, Corpse Explosion
Puddle Terror: Punch, Clobber, Dive
Hydraling: Tail Slap, Swallow You Whole, (any 3rd)

Gulp Froglet > Toxic > Water Jet > Corpse Exposion > dies
Puddle Terror : Clobber > Punch > Dive > (Dive cont) > Punch > Punch > Clobber > Punch > Dive > dies
Hydraling: Swallow You Whole, Tail Slap until Flummox dies

Worked brilliantly.

Zinip wrote on 2017-03-01 14:31:49

After ~8-10 tries, I finally managed to do this with :

Gahz'rooki 2,2,2 - Leviathan Hatchling 1,1,1 - Spawn of G'nathus 1,1,1!!!

I was only able to manage this with a Thunderbolt crit in round 9. Also was done with a P/B Leviathan Hatchling, idk if either of the other two breeds will work.

1-Geyser
2-Swap to Leviathan
3-Whirlpool
4-Toxic Skin
5-Tail Slap
6-Tail Slap (Leviathan Hatchling dies, bring Gahz' back in)
7-Geyser
8-Swap to Spawn
9-Thunderbolt (This HAS to crit, otherwise the strat fails)
10 & 11-Dive
12-Swallow You Whole (With the Thunderbolt crit, the Dive dmg brings him low enough to
benefit from the double dmg! Also Spawn dies here)
13-Swallow You Whole

I found this strat in a Wowhead comment, so credit goes to terykats on Wowhead. Although the Thunderbolt crit wasn't mentioned nor any Leviathan Hatchling breeds.

Edit: Replaced some placeholders w/ full names.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-03-06 14:35:06

Any strategy where one HAS to rely on a CRIT is not a good strategy. Simply relying upon good luck with RNGis too gimmicky; your 8-10 tries before success confirms this

Zinip wrote on 2017-03-13 13:05:48

The only reason I added this was because it did not require a gulp froglet, and thought people should know IT IS possible w/o one. If you were either not lucky enough to get one while mop was current/cant afford one now (if there even is one on the AH) your screwed if you need/want to do this. I know strats that require crits aren't favorable nor desireable (atleast in my opinion), but it is possible.

Lilyoptra wrote on 2017-03-27 14:21:47

Additional strats are always appreciated - especially when difficult to obtain pets are listed. I did not have the Gulp Froglet either so tried this strat. As an FYI, I was not able to get the Leviathan's 2nd Tail Slap in with an H/P breed - looking at the stat's, this breed is not quite fast enough to go first against Flummox which would allow the 2nd Tail Slap to land. While the H/B would also have the speed, the extra Power from the P/B would seem to be the best option for this to be successful. My Spawn was only level 23 as a 2nd strike against me so was not able to make it work.

Chrisski wrote on 2017-03-28 05:33:31

Ty, I've also farmed this Gulp Froglet w/out success so tried it w/ the Leviathan. Took 7 tries, never got a crit once w/ Thunderbolt but I had a crit tail slap and a crit dive that got him low enough for the double swallow him whole to kill him.

kwiltre wrote on 2017-04-07 18:07:30

Thank you so much! For the strategy and for the encouragement to persist. I've been on my last 3 fights for family familiar for weeks and this guy comes up again. I've been ready to smash my computer trying these fights before. Made myself level my leviathan the rest of the way and on the second attempt had enough crits to stay alive. Down to one more aquatic and one more mechanical.

Pilfer wrote on 2017-04-12 03:53:35

I make the crit in my 5 atemp. Thanks

Ripperoo wrote on 2017-05-11 17:15:22

Talk about frustrating ... took me roughly 40 attempts to get this to work. Only got crits on the Thunderbolt 3 times in that span (and none in the first 25+ attempts). First 2 crits were offset by bad RNG with his crits. Thank God I'm done with this guy.

Bliss wrote on 2017-06-23 11:05:05

No Gulp Frog but not for lack of trying. I tried Leviathan, but it mine was H/P, so I replaced it with Hydraling. Instead of using Toxic Skin, I used Call Lightning. Took three tries to win.
Did not get the lucky crit, but got lucky on other attacks.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-06-26 16:58:15

Hydraling a much better choice - worked first try!

Mel Lafferty wrote on 2017-10-05 01:45:48

I finally got this to work on my 15th attempt however I finally decided to make a change and used Hydraling (2,1,2) instead of Leviathan Hatchling making its second move Call Lightning ... what a difference! I finally got him down even when Thunderbolt didnt crit for me!

Kathleene wrote on 2017-10-04 19:22:10

From reading the other posts here, I seem to have gotten very lucky. The strategy worked for me amazingly well on the first try. We won the match with Gulp dead and the other two pets each at 70% health. I didn't even have to bring Gahz'rooki back in the second time. I was fortunate enough to have the required pets, although, I did have to use an Ultimate Stone on my L1 Gulp Froglet to get him up to speed. My thanks go out to Purged, Sof, and the Xu-Fu Team.

Mal wrote on 2017-07-30 13:59:04

Why only the Gulp ? any of the different abilities are not even used? and swarm is weak against human type. I dont understand swarm does terrible damage and is weak... this will is so far the only fight i havent been able to do in Family familiar because of not having one pet.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-08-02 20:00:47

Swarm is for the damage bonus to geyser and thunderbolt

Mojo JoJo wrote on 2017-01-09 19:21:00

Couldn't get this strat to work for me - granted the first several times I tried it, I didn't have the Gulp Froglet and was using a toad for the swarm. I got a Gulp Froglet and did find this strat (from a YouTube video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83ZuCzUSfuc&vl=en) that worked on the first try:

Gulp Froglet (1, 2, 2)
Slithershock Elver (1, 1, 2)
Spawn of G'nathus (1, 1, 1)

Start with Gulp Froglet - use toxic skin, water jet then corpse explosion - froglet dies
Bring in Elver - dodge, then pump x 4 - elver dies
Bring in Spawn of G'nathus - thunderbolt, swallow you whole (this is where Flummox died for me but use Dive as the third move if Flummox doesn't die).

Also got credit for the achievement.

Iiliania wrote on 2017-01-09 23:37:33

Thanks Mojo that strat worked great for me too. Killed him first try.

Oceanaia wrote on 2017-01-12 15:41:18

Sorry, but the strat did not work at all for me. I noticed that my Elver was not able to dodge Flummox first attack which basically ruins the rest of the fight. G-nathus usually gets killed right after dive (in which Flummox still has health left). My question to you, is your Elver a faster breed? That may explain why I'm having trouble with this one.

Leviticusmax wrote on 2017-01-12 19:05:08

Mojo,
"Swarm" from Gulp Froglet is a completely different move than "Swarm of Flies" on the Toad.
Swarm breaks the armor and a far as I know the Gulp Froglet is the only aquatic with this ability.

Use Benax instead same abilityn as Gulp, and 1++% droprate fro0m the frog rare. in Suramar

Anonymous wrote on 2017-04-27 14:17:57

Benax does not in fact have the same abilities, Gulp froglet is the only Aquatic pet that has Swarm (Ability that applies double damage taken debuff).

Reedwand wrote on 2017-05-28 01:35:17

To the poster above, you are incorrect. Swarm ability for the Aquatic pet family is not unique to Gulp. Most frogs have this ability so any frog replacement would be acceptable. Mud Jumper or Mojo if you are a pet collector.

Aelfraed wrote on 2017-05-28 04:02:15

no the double damage buff affects geyser. Normal frog will not get that extra damage in.

Ellipsis wrote on 2017-06-26 07:50:38

Reedwand, you are incorrect. Gulp Froglet is the only aquatic pet with Swarm.

Holy wrote on 2017-05-27 08:16:13

If you haven't Gahz'rooki you can replace it with Tideskipper. The only spell you need it's Geyser

Magic wrote on 2017-06-23 10:12:12

doesnt work for me :c .... worked after 10battles cause my Geyser crits for 1100 :p

Othros wrote on 2017-06-15 01:32:03

I tried every which way to get this to work and finally bought a Gulp Froglet to get it done. Then it was a snap. It's one of the last fights I need for the achieve so I'm glad to be able to check this one off. Thanks.

GreySage wrote on 2017-03-06 23:57:45

I've farmed for gulp froglet literally for years now, its never dropped. I'll pass on these terribad strats.

Ruta wrote on 2017-05-11 14:56:35

It's both rude and ironic to be unable to get a fairly easy to farm pet from Timeless Isle and then rubbish a strategy you can't ever have used.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-05-27 11:02:39

Rude? Agreed. Easy to farm? You've got to be kidding me. 3% drop chance on a 30-60 min timer. Easy? Not unless you are able to change the RNG constant of the universe.

Aelfraed wrote on 2017-05-28 04:00:10

camped a level 100 in his spot. Log on when I get home from work and check in about 4 times during the evening. Had it within a week. Totally worth it because I just smashed this boss.

Roash wrote on 2017-06-03 13:12:58

Or just buy the gulp froglet on the AH.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-06-03 07:11:35

Instead of using Swallow you whole with Spawn use Thunderbolt for larger dmg, then I used Dive and Swallow you whole. With Gahzrooki - Swallow you whole. It never worked without Thunderbolt.

Donna wrote on 2017-03-01 20:30:27

I do not have a Gulp Froglet! HELP!

Anonymous wrote on 2017-04-27 06:49:01

Use Benax Drop from the rare frog in Suramar, 100% droprate and free.. have sane stats and ability as Gulp

Anonymous wrote on 2017-04-27 14:20:58

This is Incorrect, as i said in another comment, Benax does not have the same abilities as Gulp Froglet (that drops in Timeless Isle), Gulp Froglet is the only Aquatic that has the Swarm ability.

Tie wrote on 2017-05-11 21:33:11

^^ thats not true! Most of the frogs have the swarm ability and so does the horny toad which also has over 1600hp

Edit: I didn't see his previous comment. But it is the only one that I see that does the double damage

Soullessx wrote on 2017-03-27 20:15:12

I used all the master pet tamers and I couldn't raise my ominous flame from lvl 1. So I used these guys instead:

Crazy Carrot 1,1,1
Tiny Twister [P/P] 1,1,2
Tiny Snowman 1,1,2

I'm mentioning now that this is RNG based. If your tiny twister only does 1 out of the 3 slicing winds it WILL fail. I was crit with [Buuurp!] on both fights (twice with 3/3 slicing winds, once with 2/3 slicing winds) so you may get lucky and not cut the fight so close.

1. Crazy Carrot - Blistering Cold
2. Swap to Tiny Twister
3. Call Lightning
4. Flyby
5. Slicing Wind
6. Flyby again if he didn't kill your Twister (extremely unlikely) otherwise Tiny Twister dies and swap to Crazy Carrot
7. Blistering Cold - your Carrot dies and bring in Tiny Snowman
8. Snowball
9. Snowball - Don't Blizzard before Call Lightning falls off, you need the lightning for the extra damage.
10. Call Blizzard
11. Deep Freeze
12. Snowball your life away

Edit: Clarified on attack details and edited typos.

this is the aquatic tab not the elemental

Leatherworks wrote on 2017-04-19 12:54:11

This worked for me. Could not find a Gulp Frog and these pets were easy/cheap enough to buy & farm. Thanks so much!

Ruta wrote on 2017-05-11 14:54:23

Still won't help you with Aquatic Acquiescence though...

Tie wrote on 2017-05-11 21:28:25

Thats what I was thinking too :P

Mercer Skye wrote on 2017-02-16 18:13:51

My honest opinion, since you only need 12 of the 15 for the achievement, unless you're super hardcore in a full 15/15, I'd make this one of the three you pass for Aquatics

Kai wrote on 2017-05-11 18:17:03

This was the best, to be reminded of this today. So long, Flummox!

Sneaks wrote on 2017-03-01 18:43:41

Man, it really only takes him getting in one lucky crit for this to fail. Stuck with it, though, and it worked on the fourth try!

Pilfer wrote on 2017-04-12 03:39:34

vs flummox all are like this, not only this, a crit and you fail...

Abi wrote on 2017-03-06 21:16:45

Worked. I won after turn 7, did not need to bring in Gahz'rooki for the end, my Spawn of G'nathus killed Flummox.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-03-27 15:25:22

Worked like a charm. Probably heavy on RNG, but GLAD to have this checkmark done!

Spazmoosifer wrote on 2017-02-10 03:36:02

I altered this strat a slight bit, and it worked great.

Start out with Gahz'rooki, cast Geyser.
Swap to Gulp Frog, cast Swarm.
When Swarm finishes, cast Swarm again.
Gulp Frog will die.
Bring in Spawn of G'nathus, cast Thunderbolt.
Cast Swallow You Whole.
If Spawn dies, bring in Gahz'rooki, cast Swallow You Whole.

Catryn wrote on 2017-02-15 20:35:44

This worked great for me when the original kept failing. Thanks for posting!

Patrice wrote on 2017-03-01 12:07:27

Great Strat, worked like a charm!

Mishyy wrote on 2017-03-06 15:26:23

Worked PERFECT, in comparison to all the others

Kallie wrote on 2017-03-06 16:41:50

PERFECT!... the other strat didn't work at all for me! spawn finished him off

falcon2099 wrote on 2017-02-15 16:59:29

Altered strat a bit... when you bring in your Spawn, use Dive 1st, then Thunderbolt... Gave me better success rate

Eric M wrote on 2017-02-09 11:29:42

For others who don't have Gulp Froglet fully leveled, this start worked for me with just a level 20 Gulp Froglet. (Took two tries.)

Horae wrote on 2017-01-25 00:20:48

Probably I was super lucky, but smashed him first try with this strat :)

Baba wrote on 2017-01-24 20:26:13

I couldn't win with this strat, because the Spawn would be slowed before the dive, so would get hit twice in a row. I would bring in my Gahz'rooki and I could never get a 2nd attack off. I hit once, get slowed, killed. I just changed one thing: with the spawn, I did thunderbolt - THEN swallow you whole, then dive. This means the dive would avoid 1 attack, and Spawn would live an extra round. Crucially this meant my Gahz'rooki would not get slowed and would get off the 2 attacks to win.

Pixibelle wrote on 2017-01-09 17:58:41

Slight alteration, when on Gulp Froglet round I started with Toxic Skin then Swarm. Worked better that way for me.

Deelightful wrote on 2017-01-24 13:03:22

Worked like a charm! First try! Thank you

This is a tough one. I just spent an hour trying alternative strats for Flummox Aquatic, and came up with nothing.

I hate the Elite/Boss buff. It forces us down boring paths like Shattered Defences and Howl.

I did succeed with this team, and a minor variant on the posted strat here on my fourth attempt. If Flummox doesn't kill the Gulp Froglet during Swarm, you are probably not going to succeed. Get that Shattered Defences up, and make the best possible use of your window.

I was surprised to find that only two Aquatics have Geyser, and that only one has a means to induce Shattered Defences.

gent wrote on 2017-01-13 00:22:01

Don't have a gulp froglet any suggestions on another pet?

Gráinne

wrote on 2017-01-14 20:44:11

I don't see what could be a drop-in replacement for Gulp Froglet.

Its role here is just to Swarm, supplying Shattered Defences to double the Geyser and Thunderbolt damage.

Gulp Froglet is the only Aquatic with a Swarm/Flock/Stampede-type move that yields Shattered Defences..

Anonymous wrote on 2017-01-09 17:32:47

Done with Tideskipper (1, 1, 2) instead of Gahz'rooki at first try

Annoyed wrote on 2017-01-09 15:50:30

This worked perfectly. Thank you. Also, did this 1/9/2017, got credit for achievement, and the achievement itself.

Snotbubble wrote on 2017-01-09 13:12:05

Worked well with Tideskipper 1,2,2 instead of Gahz'rooki (because I do not have him) just followed what it said with geyser and at the end used body slam to finish.

Anonymous wrote on 2017-01-09 11:49:30

My Gulp Froglet was only level 13 and this still worked for me - thank you!

Anonymous wrote on 2016-12-27 09:29:08

It counted for Aquatic Acquiescence when I tried just a few minutes ago.

Arji wrote on 2016-12-27 18:28:57

I second that. Took me more than one try, but worked and counted.

Greanie wrote on 2016-12-28 01:30:14

I have tried this strat numerous times and have died every time

Blastinya wrote on 2016-12-28 06:35:34

It took me 5 tries following the exact strat but it worked. There are a lot of factors such as crits and non crit damage amounts that determine if you are going to win or not but it is doable.

FuxieDK wrote on 2016-12-27 19:47:21

I had to add a Water Jet after the Swarm had ended, in order to make the kill. And it was nice to see that the Friend & Family gave credit this time, as it didn't the last (and only) time Flummox was active.

Anonymous wrote on 2016-09-10 22:04:17

worked on 2nd try. Gulp frog didn't die until 1 round later. As said above, no credit towards achievement.
